History
170 years of heavy industrial heritage

1698
The first iron mill is founded in the Moravian town of Blansko, establishing a centuries-old tradition of foundry and machine production that will eventually become the cradle of global hydraulic research.
1848
The Tönnies foundry is established in Ljubljana, laying the groundwork for the heavy industrial manufacturing capabilities that will define the region.
1903 – 1934
Austrian engineer Prof. Viktor Kaplan begins his research at the technical university in Brno. He collaborates directly with the predecessors of Litostroj’s current design team in Blansko to invent Kaplan turbine.
1947
Litostroj is officially founded: Following WWII, the modern Litostroj factory in Ljubljana is established as a massive heavy-industry complex to drive the rapid electrification and industrialization of the region.
